Dema was brought to us by the police. His mother was homeless and addicted to alcohol. While drunk, she tripped and dropped Dema, who was only a couple years old, on the railroad tracks. He had bruises and scratches on his face from being dropped.
A woman working in the field took Dema to the social workers, Dema’s mother did not want to give him up, but she didn’t want to give up drinking either. Shortly after Dema was placed in our home, his mother and a group of homeless men tried to forcefully take him back from the orphanage. By divine intervention, a volunteer from America was jogging towards the orphanage unaware of what was going on, and scared off the group of people trying to take Dema. Less than a year later, his mother succombed to the abuse and died.
